Ground School

Ground school courses for first time jumpers are conducted on weekday evenings at the Icarus skydiving school in Edenvale, Johannesburg. Registration is at 17:30 and the course starts at 18:00 or earlier on request. During the evening all the ground school theory will be covered, followed by a practical evaluation at the airfield on the weekend.

The outline of the first jump course is as follows:

  • Introduction and documentation
  • Skydiving Equipment
  • Aircraft drills & procedures
  • The Exit and Arch (including body position and count)
  • Theory of free fall
  • Canopy control
  • Malfunction theory and reserve drills
  • Landings
  • Revision and consolidation

Static Line Training

The traditional static line training takes an evening classroom session at the Icarus skydiving school in Edenvale, followed by the practical evaluation at the airfield. The course includes aircraft & exit procedures, landings, emergencies, and much more. The training continues with hands-on practical exercises at both the school and the airfield. Upon completion of your training you will be ready for your first jump.

Accelerated Free Fall Training Program

Our most in-depth training program for tough-minded individuals who want to experience a solo free fall on their first jump. Your training consists of the standard ground school with and an additional 2 hour course on free fall training. To do an AFF skydive, you must be 16 years of age with parental consent and weigh no more than 100kg.
